WALT DESNEY©　

Composition Head Hand Puppet
WALT DESNEY© Stamp
Approximately 29.5cm (excluding hat)

This is a cute hand puppet of Dopey (the goofy one of the Seven Dwarfs) with a blue triangular hat.

Walt Disney released the film "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" in late 1937, and soon after, many dolls, marionettes, and figurines based on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs were produced.

This one was manufactured by Crown Toys, likely in 1938, or quite old given the old composition material. There is another stamp below the WALT DESNEY© stamp on the back of the neck, but it is faded and illegible.

The cloth hands are attached to the head up to the neck, and since it would droop on a doll stand, a rod has been inserted inside for the photos. (Stand not included)

The head shows many surface cracks typical of composition, and there are small cracks on the sides of the eyes, cheeks, and forehead.
The eyes, originally white with blue paint, appear to have had brown eyeliner, the angle brackets next to the eyes, and what looks like hair added on top.
The large ears are a distinctive feature, making it cute even from the side.

The denim outfit may have been handmade later; the hands are made of a sock-like material, and there are frayed edges and glue residue on the sleeves and hem.
The blue hat has moth holes.
The pointed hat with a fluffy pom-pom is adorable.

This puppet has a truly striking presence.
